Lawyers Helping Burn Injury Victims on Long Island and Across New York State
Cellino & Barnes has seen the devastation a burn injury can bring to a victim and their entire family.
When someone is severely burned, permanent scarring and the loss of facial features, fingers and toes can occur. Also, the healing process from a severe burn is slow. It can take up to two years to heal before cosmetic surgery can even be considered.
At Cellino & Barnes, we have experience litigating burn injury cases. One of our clients, a 20-year-old woman, suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 60% of her body, when her vehicle was rear-ended by a drunk driver. Her case settled shortly before jury selection for $12,250,000.

TYPES OF BURNS
A burn injury is a very painful injury. Burns are broken down into 3 categories:
First Degree Burn usually affects the outer layer of the skin. A first degree burn causes pain, redness and swelling and usually resolves within a week. An example of a first degree burn is a mild sunburn.
Second Degree Burn is w hen the skin has been burned through to the second layer of skin. Blisters form and the skin becomes a deep red color. Second-degree burns cause severe pain and swelling.
Third Degree Burn destroys both the first and second layers of skin and extends down to the third layer. A third-degree burn may appear white or black and leathery on the surface. Third degree burns are the most severe type of burn. The pain may cause breathing problems and increased pulse rate. Third-degree burns often cause the nerve endings to be destroyed and therefore, they may not produce pain. However, the area around the burn may be extremely painful.
